I've said it before, and I'll say it again. Were the pope as omnipotent as the Orthodox fear, the Roman Rite wouldn't be in the condition in which we find it.
Gregorian Chant wouldn't be a popular music - it would be the music of the Church, the music heard every day in every parish.
The Divine Office wouldn't be something that clerics, religious, and tertiaries pray whenever they get around to it - it would be the common prayer of the church.
There certainly wouldn't be any "gay-pride" masses.
We wouldn't see any of those 20-minute/let's-not-waste-too-much-time-in-church masses.
There wouldn't be any clown masses.
Latin would never have been banned in the vast majority of American dioceses if the papacy possessed this alleged omnipotence.
If the papacy wielded such power, there would be no dissent on the Church's moral teaching.
